The Kangaroo King

It’s all about the boomer Rusty

Once again, we were on the road in the red hot centre of Australia. This is the home of the Red Kangaroos.

Everything in this natural history documentary revolves around Rusty. The male kangaroo fights for survival from the moment of its birth. To portray Rusty’s adventurous life, we were hired as an outback-proven camera team.

Freshly born, naked, blind and no bigger than a gummy bear, Rusty has to find his way into his mother’s pouch all by himself. It is the first test that every kangaroo baby must pass. The little one will stay in the pouch for over half a year and will be cared for by his mother. Our rare shots from inside the kangaroo pouch provide amazing insights.

The extreme climate in Australia’s red centre is unpredictable. This includes months of dryness and oven-like heat levels. The Red Kangaroos are prepared for this. They are true survivors. Nevertheless, Rusty must take an arduous path before he becomes King of the Kangaroos.
